History & Past Fairs
There are a number of Ohio State engineering student organizations and project teams. Some of them, like Engineers for Community Service (ECOS) or the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) are focused on outreach and community service. Others like the Open Source Club and OSU Baja Team are more focused on applied technology and hands-on experience. These diverse student groups are represented through Engineers’ Council.
All of these groups need funding to support their activities. Without funds, ECOS could not have travelled to Guatemala to help design, build, and deploy bicycle generators for the Asociación Maya Pedal. Nor could they afford to travel to Montaña de Luz in Honduras to provide technology, training, and engineering solutions to an orphanage. Without funds, the OSU Baja Team could not afford to design and fabricate off road racing vehicles every year.
In 1966, a group of entrepreneurial students decided to host an event to bring more recruiters to Ohio State while raising funds for their organizations. Engineering Expo was born!
The first Expo featured a handful of companies and was held in the lobby of Hitchcock Hall. Today, with hundreds of companies and over 5,000 students in attendance, this complex event is held at the Ohio Union.
The fair continues to provide funding for our student organizations; it is organized by a team of students with considerable administrative support from Engineering Career Services.
